Greg Rapaport's influences include, jazz, fusion and progressive metal. Having recorded three self released cd's he is well versed in songwriting, producing and engineering. Being an avid fan of the seven string guitar this allows him to expand his sound into strange new territory. Growing up with bands like Led Zeppelin, Jethro Tull, Aerosmith, and Yes, definitely gave me higher standards for musical content. I think the classic rock bands of the 70's, especially the more progressive ones, were true innovators of their time. Today though I enjoy listening to other types of music, fusion being my favorite. I enjoy the concept of taking an idea and pushing it to its extreme. Also I really appreciate the technique involved in playing this type of music. Since I have become a better player, through hours and hours and hours and hours etc. etc. of practice, I think I have a feel for how much work it takes to pull off these songs. Players like Allan Holdsworth, Shawn Lane, Greg Howe, Scott Henderson, Al Dimeola, Pat Martino are all very different players in style and technique but I think they are all killer! I found that it is also very important to listen to other instruments besides the guitar. Being a guitar player I had a tendency to listen to just the guitar playing in music, but meanwhile I was missing all the incredible musicianship of the rest of the band! Its amazing how much you can learn by listening to a really good drummer, bassist or keyboardist. Applying lines of different solo instruments like sax or trumpet can expand your playing.
